Bein' A Grammy

Last Wednesday was Ann and Eric's anniversary (15!!) and I got to watch the boys while they went out to dinner.  Dan was out of town for the week, so I asked if it would be okay if they brought the boys over here since I'm a world class chicken heart when Dan is out of town and go NOWHERE after seven.  I know, how silly of me. But that's the way it is.  :-)

We had our usual gourmet meal of chicken nuggets (the Disney ones from Costco), tater tots, and applesauce. Hey, it was boys' night out at Grammy's and nutrition is out the window.  They also had ice cream cones.

I managed to capture a couple of pictures of the boys, and then Cameron grabbed the camera while I was on the phone and snapped a couple of me and Daniel.  I'm so thankful for computers and cropping because one was so perfect of Daniel, but not so perfect of me.

It was a fun night and I loved every moment.  Well, except when we couldn't get the pak 'n play to set up so Daniel could go to bed, but then a miracle happened and we got it to work!

Everybody, let's sing!!  Tomorrow, tomorrow...  So yeah, it was another dark, gray day here at the inland coast, three hundred and fifty miles from the ocean. 

On the bright side, I made a scrumptious soup in my crockpot today.  All I can say is, "Yum!"  Dan said, "Is there more?"  You can find the recipe here.  I bought her cookbook, Make It Fast, Cook It Slow, and there are so many recipes I can't wait to try.  And it's a fun cookbook to read!  Yes, I read cookbooks for pleasure.

I have another project about to begin in the sewing room and hopefully I'll be able to share the start of it in a few days.  I'm working at the shop tomorrow and Friday, so sewing will have to wait.
 
Meanwhile, tomorrow, tomorrow...  Hmm, this song is making me think of the movie Dave.  Maybe I'll go watch it now! 

Thank You, Eric!

For a week or so I was having strange problems with signing into Blogger so I could comment on blogs.  When prompted to sign in, things kept going in circles.  I finally figured out how to do a work around, but then even that didn't work.  And more problems surfaced:  I couldn't log into our spam files, work emails for Dan weren't showing up, and then finally I couldn't log into my blog.  The information from Google that would come up was very confusing and I finally talked to son-in-law Eric about it.

I need to explain that the running joke around here is, "Marry our daughter, fix our computers."  Those are of course, Dan's words.  :-)  Anyway, several years ago we needed to change internet providers because we were finally going to go high-speed.  Yay!!!  Our choices were exactly one because of where our house is located.  Eric's family has had their own domain name for quite a while and Eric volunteered to set us up with accounts that would be ours no matter where we got the internet.  In other words, our address could stay the same if we were able/decided to switch.  We said yes.  We then threw a kink into the works and asked him to set it up so Dan's email also came through on mine so I could read it when he's out of town (in the woods).  Bless Eric's heart, he was able to do that.

Down to this week:  apparently Google and all its subsidiaries reworked things and didn't like how my account was set up.  So, they blocked me!!  The fix was supposedly easy, but I couldn't get it to work, and hence the call to Eric. 

After hours of work and research on Thursday night, he finally was finally able to resolve it by getting me a whole new account with gmail so I could log into my blog, and managed to salvage my original email name for everything else.  So now, depending on what I'm doing, I log in one way or the other.  Small price to pay.  Once again, Eric is my hero and I'm sure I owe him a big batch of cookies.  And I owe Ann a lunch out because she lost a whole evening of his company as he worked to bail her mom out. 

Computers:  can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em.  Or something like that...  And oh yes:  In the course of Eric's research on Thursday night, he discovered that many others were also having the same problems and there was much frustration (ie: anger) in cyberspace aimed at Google.

A Couple of Finishes

Every year our school district hosts an all-schools fifth and sixth grade track meet.  Needless to say, I've been to my share of them!  This year's, however, was the best:  I got to watch Cameron run and I wasn't in charge of twenty-five students for three plus hours.  :-) 

Dan and I drove to Ann's house where we plunked Daniel in his stroller, and the four of us set out for the track which was only blocks away.  The day was sunny but cool, perfect for both the walk and the meet.  Our timing was also perfect as they were calling Cameron's first race as we entered the grounds.  He was competing in two relay races and as we settled in, we saw his team lining up, and then watched him run across the way to be in position for his leg.  They won! 

We had a while to wander before his next race, so I enjoyed visiting with my former teaching partners and my principal.  (I must confess it was fun to show Daniel off, too!)  Then it was time for Cameron's second race.  He was again running clean-up, and had to go one and a half times around the track for his leg.  When he got the baton, his team was in fifth place.  He held steady around the first turn, and then took off, passing them all in short order.  He finished first with a quarter of the track distance between him and the second place runner.  He sure doesn't take after his Grammy!  Ann says all the training his soccer coaches put them through paid off. 

And the other finish?  My table runner. 

Last Day of May!

It's 62 degrees outside and the wind is quite breezy.  There is a bit of blue sky, but thunder storms are forecast for later.  Here at the resort we feel as if we are stuck in a perpetual early April.  It's as if we were at the coast but here's no ocean down the lane.  Oh well, some years are like this. 

I'm finishing up my latest project in the sewing room and hopefully I'll get the quilting done today.  Here's a sneak peak:

It's a table runner called Seminole by Atkinson Designs. It's been fun to put together, and I have no end of admiration for those who come up with such easy ways to put designs together. I've had the pattern for years and finally took the plunge. Yes! Another buffalo overcome. :-)

Meanwhile, it was a lovely Memorial Day weekend here at the resort. Dan got lots of little projects done while I was stitching away. We watched Cam, Keat and Daniel Friday night and Daniel and Keat Saturday afternoon (Cam had a soccer game out of town). Daniel was very busy chewing on anything he could get in his mouth and drooling. Hmmm...

You guessed it! Ann called yesterday to say he had gotten his first tooth and that number two is not far behind.

A Finish

I finished the binding of the quilt I showed a post or two back and I'm so happy with it! This is a happy quilt and it makes me smile every time I look at it. With all the dark, story weather we've been having, I think I'll toss it over the bedspread on our bed and at least something will look springy!

As I mentioned in the other post, I didn't have any fabric to use for borders so I took the pieced top to the shop and auditioned different fabrics by laying the quilt out on the back tables and slipping possibilities under it. The green check was perfect as a small inner border and binding, and then the bigger print, part of Moda's Martinique line, seemed to tie in well to the pieced fabrics. I was very fortunate to find what turned out to be perfect fabrics.

I'm heading down to finish some laundry, and then I'm going to my sewing room to decide on a new project. Endless possibilities! :-)
