Sixty-two Years and Counting
On June 9, 1948, my mom and dad were married in a small ceremony in the home of friends. Dad was raised in the small town where they still live, and my mom was raised in a large town a state away. They were introduced by a mutual friend who just knew they should meet. They have weathered many years together. They are determined people, and my brother and I have been blessed to have them for parents.

Happy anniversary, Mom and Dad. Thank you for your love and commitment to each other and to your family.

Wow 62 years... that's pretty awesome!
ReplyDeleteI remember them when they hadn't yet reached their 10th anniversary. Was it a whirlwind courtship? Was it hard for her to adjust to life in his hometown?
ReplyDeleteI don't think it was whirlwind. I'm pretty sure they met the fall before, so probably dated 6-8 months. Mom once said that for years she hoped Dad would want to move to Spokane, but I think once he got home from the war, there was no leaving. He did smokejump out of Missoula in 1946, and then worked for the Forest Service in Oregon in 1947. He couldn't smokejump any more because he'd had a bad accident in the woods in the fall of '46 and was still recooperating. Dr. Papenhagen was able to rebuild his leg with a 9" steel plate, but his jumping days were over.
ReplyDeleteMom came to town with three or four $100 suits she'd worn when she'd worked in Seattle. She'd save up her money and then have them tailored to her 5'10", 123 lb body. She was used to dressing up, and whenever she'd go downtown, someone would ask whose funeral she'd been to!
and counting............
ReplyDeleteCongrats to a handsome couple.
A very attractive lady who always dressed her cute little girl in style, too.
